Lynn (Fanning) White, 84, widow of William Alan "Dick" White, Sr., formerly of Baylor Street, Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at The Legacy at North Augusta in Staunton.
Mrs. White was born on April 8, 1940, in Princeton, West Virginia to Joseph Crockett Fanning and Willie Vera (Broyles) Fanning.
Lynn graduated from Eastern Mennonite University and was employed as a registered nurse on the medical center at Western State Hospital until her retirement. She was active in the community, serving on America's Birthday Celebration committee, the Salvation Army as a chairwoman, the Valley Mission, and Habitat of Humanity. Mrs. White was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church since 1975, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of "Sounds of Joy" hand bell group. Her hobbies included reading, and growing flowers and tomatoes.
Mrs. White was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, William Alan White, Jr. and Joseph Vaughn White; sister, Karen "Kay" (Fanning) Hazlewood; and her special friend and companion, Woody Cecil Sowers.
Mrs. White is survived by her daughters, Robin Ruleman and her husband, Michael of Staunton and Diana Scimeca and her husband, Joseph of St. Pete Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Dr. Maggie Scimeca of Las Vegas, Danny Scimeca of Harrisburg, PA, Allie White of Charleston, WV, and Mason McKitrick and his wife, Burgundy of Hurricane, WV; two great-grandchildren, Asher and Hazel McKitrick; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. White's memory to Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
The family would like to express a sincere "Thank you" to Legacy Hospice and Holly Baker at The Legacy at North Augusta for the care and compassion shown to Lynn.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
