Lucy Ellen Meek, 70, formerly of 956 Georgetown Road, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Miss Meek was born May 15, 1939 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Marshall Preston and Thelma Lucy (Black) Meek.
Lucy was a LPN working at King Daughters Hospital and Augusta Medical Center. In 2003 she retired after forty-four years of nursing. Miss Meek worked the 3 to 11 shift in the newborn and nursery ward. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Staunton and a member of the Christian Womens Club of Staunton.
Lucy was very supportive to her family, always giving and caring for others. Her favorite hobby was collecting angels, bells and though she never had children of her own, caring for other children was her love.
In addition to her parents, Miss Meek was preceded in death by a brother James H. Meek.
Surviving are three brothers and sisters-in-law; Roger A. Meek and his wife Anne Marie of Burgaw, NC, Joseph W. Meek and his wife Janice of Madison Heights and Roy C. Meek and his wife Bonnie of Norco, CA; four sisters and brothers-in-law; Martha J. Moyers (who passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009)and her husband Donald of Harrisonburg, Sandra M. Pultz and her husband Walter of Staunton, Linda M. Tullos and her husband Kenneth of Cabot, AR and Barbara A. Whitt and her husband James F. of Allowaw, NJ.; six nieces, eight nephews and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Lucys life will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dr. Richard S. Dietrich.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Ronald Meek, Robert Meek, David Meek, Ray Meek, Glen Meek, Randy Meek, Chris Meek and Emmitt Kirby.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from to 5 to 7 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and at other times the home of her niece, Alisa and Jonathan Berry, 581 Knightly Lane, Mt. Sidney.
