Lowell Wayne Paw Kelso, 68, husband of Donna Lynne (Fridley) Kelso of 26 Pine Hill Lane passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Kelso was born July 2, 1943 in Augusta County, a son of the late Robert Wilson Kelso, Sr. and Vallie Virginia (Harper) Kelso.
Mr. Kelso was retired from Poly Bond/Wayne Tex in Waynesboro where he was a supervisor and was previously employed as a supervisor with Stillwater Worsted Mills in Augusta Springs. He attended the Community Fellowship Church of the Nazarene and Joyful Sound Church and he played on the church softball league. He coached and umpired the Craigsville Little League Baseball teams. Mr. Kelso enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and he never met a stranger. Mr. Kelso fought a courageous battle suffering from CMT and other health issues for a number of years.
In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Kelso, Jr., a grandson, Carter Wayne McGuffin and his companion pet, Benjamin.
Surviving in addition to his wife of thirty-two years is a daughter, Karen Sue (Kelso) McGuffin of Churchville; a brother, John L. Kelso and his wife Betty V. Kelso of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Nancy K. Minter and her husband Henry C. Minter of Craigsville; father-in-law, R. Eugene Fridley of Staunton; three grandchildren, Lindsay B. McGuffin, Bradley D. McGuffin and Addison T. McGuffin; two brother-in-laws, Jerry L. Fridley of Craigsville and Rick C. Fridley and his wife Pat of TX; a number of nieces and nephews and his pet cat, Elvis and puppy, Crissy Lee, also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2012 in the Joyful Sound Church by Pastor Michael Herring and Pastor Jeff Griffith.
Burial will follow in the Craigsville Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
Active pallbearers will be Bruce Kelso, Kim Sprouse, Wayne Nycum, Larry Nycum, Robbie Gordon, Ralph Miller and David Norcross.
Honorary pallbearers are Ralph and Debbie Prater, Kern and Polly Armstrong, Monica and John Paul, Aaron and Karen Thompson, Rocky and Kathy Zimbro, and Corby and Susan Durrett and Mike Williams.
It is suggested those desiring to make memorial contributions to
the Augusta Regional, S.P.C.A., 33 Archery Lane, Staunton, VA 24401.
