Louise Marie (Lessley) Shunkwiler 86, wife of Mahlon Carl Shunkwiler formerly of Emerald Hills Drive passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 in Augusta Health, Fishersville.
Mrs. Shunkwiler was born April 26, 1928 in Augusta County, Virginia a daughter, of the late Ernest and Marie (Glenn) Lessley.
Louise was a faithful member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church. Prior to her retiring, Mrs. Shunkwiler was a Branch Manager at the Equitable Bank of Maryland. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlework and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shunkwiler was preceded in death by four sisters, Verna Rudine, Ethel Nuckols, Phyllis Kruger and Dorothy Lawhorn.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 70 years are three sons; Carl G. Shunkwiler and wife Elizabeth of Wetumpka, Al., Larry M. Shunkwiler and wife Kathy of Baltimore, MD., and Robert Shunkwiler and wife Susan of Westminster, MD.; a daughter, Deidre Shumaker and husband Larry of Falling Waters, WV.; three sisters, Josephine Mooneyham of Raphine, Nellie Quillen of Fishersville and Margaret Callison of Staunton; eight grandchildren; Michele Leggett, Jennifer Fogle, Laura Cagle, Brian Shunkwiler, Stephanie Stagg, Justin Shunkwiler, Victoria Jones and Rebecca Shunkwiler; nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. H. Wray Sherman.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be her sons, and Caleb Leggett, Timothy Jones and John Stagg. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Glover and Jody Kruger.
