Louise (Martin) Heffner, 96, widow of Robert Lee Heffner of 3619 Middlebrook Village Road, Middlebrook, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at her residence.
Mrs. Heffner was born on April 14, 1913 in Nowater, Oklahoma, a daughter of the late Joseph Morton and Gatzzie Lou (Burtz) Martin.
Louise was a life member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Reidsville, NC; she was an active member of the Reidsville Womens Club, the Studio Group and the Rockingham County Arts Association. She enjoyed painting, gardening, and knitting. She most recently donated her time and talents in knitting the room afghans for the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Heffner was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph R. Martin and Olin Martin and a sister, Annabelle Pearson.
Mrs. Heffner was much loved and will be missed by her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Roberta (Heffner) Hamlin of Middlebrook with whom she made her home; a sister, Katie (Martin) Bibee of Reidsville, NC; two very close nieces, Jo Lee Greene of Raleigh, NC and Kay Freeland of Oak Island, NC; three nephews, Joe Martin of Stanley, NC, William Martin and Kenneth Martin, both of Winston-Salem, NC. and three step-grandchildren, Richard C. Hamlin, Christopher G. Hamlin and Lise Hamlin.
A private graveside service will be conducted in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in Reidsville, NC.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Folly Mills by Father John F. Glover. The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall.
