STAUNTON:

Lottie (Washington) Hamilton, 81, widow of Philmore B. Hamilton of 414 Montgomery Avenue passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at her residence.
Mrs. Hamilton was born January 10, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of the late James, Sr. and Sarah Magnolia (Butler) Washington.
Lottie was a member of the Mt. Salem Baptist Church and had retired from Western State Hospital in June of 1991 after thirty years of nursing. She liked to cook and she was always happy, a caring friend and loved being a Mother to all the children in the neighborhood. Mrs. Washington was known as the "Neighborhood Mother"
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John D. Butler, Alexander Washington and John Washington and two sisters, Fannie Holly and Lucy Becks.
She is survived by her children, William Sam Hamilton, Geraldine H. Taylor, Philmore Carrington Hamilton, and Judy Rachel Johnson. She was mother of Judy Wade, Sara Pina, Shirley Wade, Edward Wade, Mark Blair, Roger Morgan, Kathy White, and Mark Johnston. Mrs. Hamilton is also survived by her sister Alice Graves and four brothers James Washington Jr., Stewart Washington, Richard Washington, and Frank Washington, several nieces and nephews. Ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survived. Special friends to note are Alberta Wade, Margaret Woods, Glenn Graves and Ron Hughes.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Mt. Salem Baptist Church by Pastor Floyd Miles.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
Active pallbearers will be Walter Wallace, Robert and Tom Patterson, Donald Hart, Ron Hughes, Glenn Graves and Robert Witt.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Mt. Salem Baptist Church, Youth Ministry, 1015 Stuart Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is handling her arrangements.
