Lisa Ann Whitescarver's Obituary

Lisa Ann (Foster) Whitescarver, 48, of Staunton, passed away Monday, (August 3, 2009) at her residence.
Ms. Whitescarver was born October 1, 1960 in Charleston, West Virginia, a daughter of Melvin Philip and Ida Mae (Boedecker) Foster.
Lisa worked in the Augusta County School system for twenty-six years as a kindergarten teacher, most recently at Clymore Elementary School where she was awarded 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Staunton and enjoyed traveling to other countries.
Tennis was a very active part of Lisas life. Lisa was a member of the United States Tennis Association, as well as the Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta Tennis Association (S.W.A.T.), including terms as President and Vice-President of the local group. She was the initial Scholarship Committee Chairperson for S.W.A.T., which gives two local graduating seniors a $1,000 scholarship. For several years, she was the Director of the National Junior Tennis League. Tuesday Night Tennis was her brainchild, where teaching professionals offer their time freely to all levels of players on local public courts. She was a highly successful coach, guiding her 1989 Fort Defiance High School girls team to an AA State Championship, as well as having several individual state champions. She was an accomplished player herself, winning several local tournaments in Womens Doubles and Mix Doubles. She was recently awarded the 2009 Tennis Achievement Award by S.W.A.T. for all of her contributions to the local community.
Ms. Whitescarver was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Cecil and Nina Foster and maternal grandparents, Conrad and Pearl Boedecker.
Surviving in addition to her parents are three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah F. Marbert and her husband Brian J. of Centreville; Gretchen F. Robertson and her husband Stuart A. of Roanoke, Molly F. Stinespring and her husband Jeff S. of Waynesboro; a beloved friend and companion, Edward Chip Yates of Staunton; three nieces, Kayla E. Marbert, Jacqueline M. Stevenson and Taylor A. Robertson; two nephews, Chase A. Robertson and Blake D. Stinespring and a special pet Beagle Penny.
A Celebration of Lisas life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Wade Munford.
Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Foster, 826 Paul Street, Staunton.
