Lionel Berkeley L.D. Davenport, Sr., 55, husband of Shelia (Wilson) Davenport, of 1404 Jackson Street, passed away Saturday evening, December 5, 2009 at his residence.
L.D was born on March 20, 1954 in Augusta County a son of the late William Gray, Sr. and Agnes (Childress) Davenport.
Mr. Davenport retired from DuPont in November of 2007 with 27 years of service as a quality control supervisor and was a graduate of Buffalo Gap High School class of 1972. Lionel enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, doing family activities such as the Tour De Gap Bike Club which was a family tradition. He enjoyed camping, playing golf, basketball and remodeling his and other family members homes.
Surviving in addition to his wife Shelia, whom he married November 15, 1975 are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lionel A. Tony Davenport and his wife Amy of Waynesboro and Lionel B. Davenport, Jr. and his fiance Aja Sae-Kung of Gaithersburg, MD; a daughter, Lyric Miel Davenport of Roanoke; six brothers and two sisters-in-law, Maurice Alexander Davenport of Staunton, William Gray Davenport, Jr. and his wife Tina of Stuarts Draft, Zane Uzell Davenport of Staunton, Walter Samuel Davenport of Stuarts Draft, Alvin Leon Hart of Staunton and Jeffery Marshall Henderson and his wife Deborah Ann of Staunton; two sisters, Wanda Elaine Davenport of Richmond and Sylvia Laverne Davenport of Alexandria; his mother-in-law, Rita S. Wilson of Staunton and four grandchildren, Anthony Mace Davenport, Addison Brooke Davenport, Brittany Elyse Davenport and Shawn Baker. In addition to his family, Mr. Davenport is also survived by his close and special friends, Coach Gene Lilley, Lois Myers, Kathy Newman and Ronnie Lockridge and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Strickler.
The family will receive friends following the service or at his residence at other times.
