Leonard O. Collie
VERONA:
Leonard Owen Collie, 76, beloved husband of Barbara Gene (Bass) Collie of 7 Mountain View Drive passed away Friday evening, May 13, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Collie was born on December 5, 1934 in Halifax, Virginia, a son of the late Jack Spencer and Lelia Jeter (Williamson) Collie.
Mr. Collie was a member of Verona United Methodist Church, where he was very active in church activities and sang in the church choir. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was employed with General Electric / Genicom for over 30 years. He was a volunteer at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Collie enjoyed time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren as well as his many friends. Reading and fishing were some of his favorite pastimes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Felix Collie and Maynard Swanson Collie and three sisters, Hilda Bush, Mattie Lee Williams and Charlotte Collie.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years, are two daughters and their husbands, Pamela Collie Davis and husband Tracey of Staunton and Kim Collie Chandler and husband David of Verona; a sister and her husband, Rosamond Brown and husband Elliot of Flint Michigan; four grandchildren, Alex Owen Davis, Kacey Eugenia Davis, Travis Wade Chandler and Gena Marie Chandler; a sister-in-law, Betty Collie of Semora, NC; two brothers-in law and their wives, J. Earl Bass and wife Sara and Donald A. Bass and wife Patsy all of Ringgold, VA; and special cousin, Mary Agnes Barker of Milton, NC and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2011 in the Verona United Methodist Church by Pastor Matthew D. Bates, Jr. and Pastor C. Edward Pruitt.
Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Alex Davis, Travis Chandler, Paul Bass, Corky Collie, Rickye Collie, Douglas Barker, Melvin Martin and Harry Lockridge.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Open Door Sunday School Class.
