Lena Belle (Helmick) Phillips Wiseman, 88, wife of Dr. Raymond Swadley, of Valley View Drive, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Wiseman was born August 11, 1925, in Blue Grass, Virginia, a daughter of the late William and Lena (Vandevander) Helmick.
Lena was a member of Mt. Sidney United Methodist Church, a member of the Weyers Cave Lions Club, the Bridgewater VFW Post 8644 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Staunton Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 680; she retired in 1985 from ASR. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wiseman was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Wiseman is survived by two daughters; Mary Jane (Phillips) Hardy and husband John, and Cristal (Phillips) Galvin and husband Donald, all of Staunton; four grandchildren, Steven Hardy and wife Media, Terry Rodgers and husband Trey, Crista Galvin-Cox and husband Major Edward Cox, and D. Dwain Galvin; seven great grandchildren, Rachel, Monica Lorin, Alexis, Carlie, Seth and Leland; three brothers, Wilber Helmick of Broadway, Bruce Helmick of Richmond, and Eugene Helmick of Mechansville; a sister, Mary Waitman of Charles City and friend and caregiver, Barbara Wise.
A Graveside service will be conducted by 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor Russell L. Heinrich.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Virginia Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1500 Forest Ave., Suite 124, Richmond, VA 23229-5104.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff on third floor at Augusta Health for the care and compassion given to Mrs. Wiseman.
