Lawrence W. Campbell
GREENVILLE
Lawrence Wilmer Campbell, 92 husband of Ocie (Fitzgerald) Campbell of 5028 Lee Jackson Highway passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Campbell was born November 13, 1918 in Vesuvius, Virginia a son of the late Joseph Wilmer and Hattie Lucille (Hite) Campbell.
Mr. Campbell was retired from VDOT after 28 years of service and was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army serving during World War II and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member of Middlebrook Church of God and the Steeles Tavern VFW Post 8279. Mr. Campbell enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Campbell, Paul Campbell and Elwood Campbell, two sisters, Lucille Hockaday and Kathleen Cullen and a step-son Carson E. Bryant.
Surviving in addition to his wife of thirteen years are two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Bryant of Fishersville and Rebbecca Becky Bryant and husband Gary of Waynesboro; two step-sons, Daniel I. Bryant of Greenville and Jack Campbell, Sr. of Raphine; a step-daughter, Betty Campbell of Greenville, a sister, Genieve Showalter of Raphine; five grandchildren, Lisa Bryant of Stuarts Draft, Angela Webb of Foreman, AK, Tabitha Moore of Raphine, Melissa Bryant of Fairfield and Cyndi Fitzgerald of Waynesboro; five great grandchildren, Jessica and Danielle Fitzgerald, John Michael Webb and Rebecca Webb and Samantha Moore; three step-grandchildren, Tonya Campbell, Jack Campbell, Jr. and Danelle Moran; four step-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2010 in Middlebrook Church of God by Pastor Merle M. Dodson.
Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Graveside Rites by Steeles Tavern VFW Post #8279.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory or at the residence at other times.
Active Pallbearers will be Jimmy Marcum, Roger Bowling, Glenn Hughes, Greg Leigh, William Simmons, Jack Campbell, Ohmer Chittum, Terry Scott Campbell and Robert Oyler.
It is suggested that memorial contribution be made to VFW Post 8279 C/O Lawrence Phillips, PO Box 523, Vesuvius, VA 24483.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
