Obituary

Larry William Melton, 66, husband of Jennifer Aleen (Campbell) Melton of Craigsville, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in Augusta County.

Mr. Melton was born in Staunton, Virginia on November 9, 1959 a son of the late Goldie Lester Melton, Jr. and Mamie Mae (Campbell) Melton.

Larry was a self-employed truck driver with L.B.T. Transport. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his pet companion “Gracie”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Lester “Pop” Melton; and two uncles, Jessie Piner and Johnny Campbell.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 38 years is a daughter, Windy Cook and her husband Jeff of Craigsville; a sister, Teresa A. Balser and her husband Ernie of Staunton; two grandchildren, Kasey Cook (Evan Martin) and Jeffery Cook and his wife Crystal; five great-grandchildren, Rosie, Lilly, Isaac, Colt, and Kennedy; two special nieces, April McRay Craig and Dreama Sheffer; a special nephew, Mike Piner and close friend, William Woolridge.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence in Craigsville.

A Celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Larry Strickler.

Burial will follow in the Little River Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Goshen.

Active pallbearers will be Jeffery Cook, Evan Martin, Colby Coffey, Mike Piner, William Woolridge, Darrell Vess, and Walter Killian.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Hodge, Jeff Good, Chris Breeden, Travis Kay, and Luke Mandichak.

The family would like to express a sincere “Thank You” to the Houff family and the trucking community which meant so much to Larry.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
