Kenny was born in Winchester, Virginia on February 6, 1954, the son of Roma Layne (Nofsinger) Hansell and the late Calvin Conner Hansell.

Kenny was a self-employed mechanic and enjoyed building hot-rods. "If
Kenny couldn't fix it, it wasn't broke."

Surviving in addition to his mother of Winter Haven, Florida, and his wife of thirty-six years are two sons, Shannon Wade Himelright and his wife Nicole of Toms Brook and John Wesley Hansell and his wife Laura of Strasburg; three daughters, Octaviea "Lee" Colvin of Strasburg, Victoria Faith Hansell of Fredericksburg, and Katelyn (Hansell) Thomas and her husband Chip of Blue Ridge; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a sister, Elisabeth Ann (Hansell) McCollough and her husband Kurtis of Winter Haven, Florida.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
