On Friday, December 25, 2020, Kelvin Lee Brown, a native of Staunton, VA, passed away peacefully in his home. Kelvin was born on April 1, 1954, and was the son of his parents, the late Lewis P. Brown, Jr., and Alice V. Brown, also of Staunton, VA. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Ruth Brown.
Kelvin is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, and served in the United States Army. Following his stint in the military, he moved to Long Beach, California where he became educated in the field of IT technology. While in California, he developed electrical systems for the airline industry, and later became a Software Developer where his career afforded him the opportunity to use his expertise in companies located in Savannah, Georgia, Lake Norman, North Carolina, and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Though Kelvin relished living in a warmer climate, when he made the decision to retire, Staunton once again became the place where he chose to live out his retirement years. He enjoyed daily exercise, and walks through Gypsy Hill Park, as well as spending time with good friends, and family. He adored his two cats, Lauren and Eddie, and listening to his favorite recordings of jazz music. He was an avid reader, which led him to become a history buff, especially in the area of Black History. Kelvin relished a good political debate for all who were willing to share views from the opposite side of the political fence. He was a huge proponent of justice for all people.
Kelvin is survived by his son, Jeffrey A. Brown, three beautiful Granddaughters, Tamia, Mariah, and Maleah Brown. He also leaves behind three siblings, Lewis P. Brown, III (Cheryl), and Milton E. Brown of Washington, DC, and Christine D. McGruder (George) of Bowie, MD, as well as a very special love and close friend, Jacqu Addison-Jones. Kelvin leaves behind two aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as numerous friends and associates.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, Staunton.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in Fairview Cemetery, Staunton by Reverend Michael A. Turner.
