Kathryn Gray Johnson, 60, of Staunton, VA passed away on Saturday April 18, 2026 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, VA.

Kathy was born in Richmond, VA on July 1, 1965 to William Carroll Johnson, Sr. and Emily Wheatley (Brame) Dodge. Kathy graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in 1983. Kathy played basketball and softball. She was also involved in a variety of clubs and school activities. Kathy was loved by all and never met a stranger. She had an infectious sense of humor and a competitive spirit. Kathy was happiest when she was of service to others. Kathy devoted many years to the local chapter of the Special Olympics. She loved interacting with the athletes and their families. Nothing touched her more than seeing those athletes filled with a sense of accomplishment and pure joy.

Kathy retired from Hollister Corporation after more than 25 years. While working at Hollister, she organized Christmas fundraisers for area children. She enlisted the help of her generous colleagues, and together they purchased hundreds of gifts for many local families. Kathy loved fishing, boating, camping, and all outdoor activities. She also loved UVA sports and was a huge fan of the Washington Redskins.

Kathy was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Ann Taylor and Ann Marie Duncan.

She is survived by her parents, William Carroll and Ellen H. Johnson, Sr. She is also survived by her biological mother, Emily Wheatley (Brame) Dodge. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Dianne Wade Truslow and her husband, Ronnie of Waynesboro, and two brothers, William Carroll Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Gail of Waynesboro, and Samuel H. Johnson and his wife, Catherine Lareau of Staunton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy left behind her beloved fur babies, Claire and Bailey.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the animal shelter of your choice or to the Special Olympics.
