Kathryn (Jones) Brown, 78, widow of Curtis Reid Brown, Sr. of 1533 Lee Jackson Highway, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was born on February 13, 1938 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Lacy E. and Mildred (Hunter) Jones.

Kathryn was a member of the Rising Zion Baptist Church, a faithful and active member. She was a Deaconess of the church, the church Secretary and Treasurer for twenty-five years. Mrs. Brown was involved in all church activities and functions and was past president of the Willing Workers Womens Club. She retired from Western State Hospital where she was employed as a nursing supervisor.

Surviving are two sons, Curtis R. Brown, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Richmond, CA and Douglas O. Brown of Staunton; a brother, Clarence Jones of Verona; a grandson; two step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mildred B. Middlebrooks. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Rising Zion Cemetery.
