(Weaver) Scott
July 19, 1933 – June 24, 2022
Karen Clarissa (Weaver) Scott, 88, formerly of Ann Street, Staunton passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Maryland.
Ms. Scott was born in Millboro, Virginia on July 19, 1933, a daughter of the late Edward Marvin Weaver and Lillian Velna (Fitzpatrick) Weaver.
Karen was a charter member of the Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows of Charlottesville and Vicinity, as well as the R.C. Pannell Young Ladies Auxiliary, Sanctuary Choir, and trustee emeritus of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
She retired after 39 years as a French and English teacher at Booker T. Washington and Robert E. Lee High Schools, and she and fellow teacher chaperoned French and Spanish students on a summer tour of Europe. Karen was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, volunteered with the Staunton Augusta Art Center and Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Habitat for Humanity, and was elected for a local-district National Education Association-Retired term.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Scott was preceded in death by two brothers, Emerson Marvin Weaver and Ellerson Fitzpatrick Weaver; four sisters, Velna (Weaver) Porter, Curtura (Weaver) Gaines, Sophronia (Weaver) Jackson and Christopher Lorraine Weaver; and former spouse, Dr. James Henry Scott, Jr.
Surviving, is a sister, Lillian Eudora (Weaver) Etheridge of Washington, D.C.; two sons, James Henry "Scottie" Scott, III and Anthony Pierre "Tony" Scott of Staunton; a daughter, Sonja Scott McPherson and her husband Owen Spencer McPherson, Jr. of Laurel, Maryland; and a grandson, Spencer Hill McPherson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Ebenezer Baptist Church led by Reverend Doctor Michael A. Turner, Sr.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
