Juanita Catherine (Varner) Maddox, 91, widow of Homer L. Maddox, of Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Brookdale of Staunton.

Mrs. Maddox was born in Augusta County, Virginiaon February 28, 1933, a daughter of the late Harmon Brown Bell Varner and Mary Naomi (Sandy) Varner.She was the sixth of nine children.

Juanita was a member of Bethlehem Community Church, formerly United Methodist.

Mrs. Maddox was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband of seventy-two years, Mrs. Maddox is preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Vincent, Clyde, Robert, and William Varner; and three sisters, Carletta Frank, Cleta Opple, and Sarah Swisher.

Surviving, is a son, Glenn Maddox and his wife,Vickie of Swoope; a daughter, Judy McIlwee and her husband, Gene of Staunton; four grandchildren, Kimberly Cash and her husband, Sam of Raphine, Steven Maddox and his wife, Chelby of Raphine, Megan McIlwee of Staunton, and Jason McIlwee and his wife,Katie of Lyndhurst; two step-grandchildren, Casey Fitzgerald and his wife, Michelle and Kelly Williams and her husband, Mike all of FL; six great-grandchildren, Sam Cash III and his wife, Ana, Aspen Johnson and her husband, Tyler, Madison Cash, Ty Maddox, Tenley Maddox, and Nicholas McIlwee; four step-great-grandchildren, Lauren Clodi and her husband, Kyle, Jonah Fitzgerald, Aaron Williams and his wife, Coral, and Daniel Williams; two step-great-great-grandchildren, Jett Clodi and Catalina Williams; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Those desiring, may pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 in Bethlehem Community Church, 748 Trimbles Mill Road, Swoope, VA, by Pastor Dave Boger.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service at The Inn at MeadowCroft, 331 Glebe School Road, Swoope, VA.

Active pallbearers will be Sam Cash, Kimberly Cash, Steven Maddox, Megan McIlwee, Jason McIlwee, Travis Smith, Aaron Shull, and Jeff Back.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Smith, Phil Swisher, Dick Law, and Carl Cox.

It is suggested, that those desiring make memorial contributions to Bethlehem Community Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 31, Swoope, VA 24479.

The family would like to express a sincere "Thank you" to Pennie, Dale and Travis Smith, Shirley Back, Gladys Cash, Florence Shover and the many caregivers over the last 16 months.
