Juanita Virginia (Nuckols) Chandler, 92, widow of Johnny William Chandler, formerly of Indian Ridge Road, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 in Birch Garden Assisted Living in Staunton.
Mrs. Chandler was born on May 28, 1924 in Augusta County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Robert and Alma (Wright) Nuckols.
Juanita was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years and she was proud to be called a homemaker. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, especially her roses and spending time with her grandchildren which were the love of her life.
In addition to her husband to whom she was married to for over 50 years and her parents, Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Nuckols; a sister, Nathalie Duty; and a grandson, Keith Chittum.
Surviving are three daughters, Jean Chittum, Fay Fretwell and Gerry Coggin, and Brenda Cox and her husband Johnny, all of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Doris Riley and her husband Otho of Mint Spring; eight grandchildren, Todd Fretwell and his wife Amy, Jon Fretwell and his wife Crystal, Anita LaPorte and her husband Jeff, Dana Branch and her husband Lee, Gina Coffey and her husband GF, Tina Dressler and her husband Renick, Shelly Hogge and her husband David, and Tatum Majors and her husband Chris; fifteen great-grandchildren, Bradley Dressler, Rendy Dressler, Katie Coffey, Kelly Coffey, Trey Coffey, Brooke Majors, Justin Branch, Chandler Branch, Kala Fretwell, Bethany Fretwell, Megan Fretwell, Gabby LaPorte and Jackson LaPorte, and Jordan and Skylar Hogge; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor David Cunningham.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at her residence and also following the service on Monday.
Burial will be private in Calvary Church Cemetery by Chaplain Murphy Terry.
