Juanita Faye (Chestnut) Thompson, 89, widow of Gail Edward Larkin Thompson formerly of Montgomery Avenue passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Thompson was born on September 17, 1926 in Vanderpool, (Highland County, VA) a daughter of the late James Otis, Sr. and Icy Gray (Gutshall) Chestnut.
Mrs. Thompson was of the Methodist faith. She retired from Western State Hospital after thirty-eight years of service as a charge aide, she enjoyed playing bingo, knitting and crocheting, word search and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by a son, Calvin M. Doyle, Jr.; a sister, Christine Chestnut; six brothers, Curtis Elwood Chestnut, James Otis Chestnut, Jr., Carl Dean Chestnut, Darrell Leon Chestnut, Lyle Douglas Chestnut and Stewart Travis Chestnut; and first husband and father of her children, Calvin M. Doyle, Sr.
Surviving is a daughter, Brenda D. Hupman and her husband Douglas Doug of Staunton; two sons, Gary Elwood Doyle of Lynchburg and Edward Lee Thompson of Mayland; a daughter-in-law, Joyce D. Doyle of Staunton; two brothers, Lowell Wayne Chestnut and his wife Thelma of Monterey and Bobby Lee Chestnut and his wife Edna of Stevens City; two sisters, twin sister, Anita Gray (Chestnut) Cauley of Hot Springs and Ila (Chestnut) Claytor and her husband Doug of Covington; sisters-in-law, Herthel G. Chestnut of Verona, Jean H. Chestnut of Harrisonburg and Emily G. Chestnut of Staunton; five grandchildren, William David Bill Hupman and his wife Rebecca, Robert Glenn Bobby Hupman and his wife Melissa, James Dean Doyle and his wife Amy, Sherrie T. Spitler and Michael Thompson and his wife Paula; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Harold W. Pete Campbell.
The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law at 403 Montgomery Avenue, Staunton.
Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 420 Neff Avenue, Suite 210, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801 or to the Alzheimers Association Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 250 East Market Street, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801.
The family would like to thank Dr. Chernoff, the Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, their staff and nurses for their special care during her illness.
