Joyce Ann (Robertson) Zinkhan, 73, wife of Benjamin Christian Ben Zinkhan, III of 1606 Ridgeway Drive passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Zinkhan was born on April 22, 1942 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Emmitt L., Sr. and Elizabeth (Landrum) Robertson.
Joyce was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, serving as a circle leader of the Eskew-Bates Womens Circle, the U.M.W. and was involved on numerous other committees of the church. She was known as Mother of A.M.A., she was a recipient of the Alumni Medal Award, in which she was only the third female to receive this award. Also, along with her husband they were the only married couple to receive this honor. Joyce retired from the Genesco Company after thirty-three years of service as a seamstress. She enjoyed flower gardening, painting, cooking, attending tea parties, shopping and collecting dolls and giraffes. Joyce especially enjoyed spending time with her husband traveling all fifty states.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Zinkhan was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles D. Robertson and Grover W. Robertson and three sisters, Mary Fitzgerald, Nancy Thompson and Sandy Golladay.
Surviving in addition to her husband of thirty years is a son, Timothy E. Tim Mizer and his wife Lisa R. (Hughes) of Verona; three daughters, Sherri Ann Langford and Krystal D. Goff and her husband Lee both of Staunton and Laura D. Zinkhan of Conover, NC; a brother, Emmitt L. Robertson, Jr. of Hartwood, VA; a sister, Isabelle R. Hutson of Staunton; eight grandchildren and an adopted grandchild; five greatgrandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and her pet dog, Molly.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in the Christ United Methodist Church and other times at the residence.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Christ United Methodist Church by Rev. Sarah Locke.
Burial will follow in the Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Tyler Mizer, Mark Robertson, Justin Miller, Matthew Goff, Thomas Langford, Chad Welcher and Dennis Landes.
Honorary pallbearers will be the United Methodist Women of the Church.
