Joyce Marie (Weeks) Lassiter, 65, wife of David E. Lassiter of 1514 Dennison Avenue passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at her residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mrs. Lassiter was born March 24, 1947 in Lexington, Virginia, a daughter of the late Horace Gordon and Dorothy (Painter) Weeks.

Joyce retired in 2002 from Virginia School for Deaf and Blind with 35 years of service. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cross stitching, and was a member of the Staunton Church of the Latter Day Saints.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Lassiter was preceded in death by a brother Hensley Weeks.

In addition to her mother of Raphine and her husband of 36 years, Mrs. Lassiter is survived by a brother Johnny Weeks and wife Dana of Raphine; two sisters Jeanie (Weeks) Milstead of Verona and Nina Shipman and husband Charlie of Raphine; a niece and caregiver Ada Marie Greene of West Virginia; nephew Tim Greene of New York; three great nephews Cody Greene, Timmy Greene, and Skyler Greene; a great niece Ashley Greene; a special sister-in-law Maxine Weeks of Raphine; another sister-in-law, Judy Lassiter of Staunton and other nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor Don Cash.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Painter, Sr., Cody Greene, Timmy Greene, Cody Milstead, Tony Weeks, Jason Weeks and Scott Weeks.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 in Coffman Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
