Joyce Lavina (Butler) Wimer, 98, widow of George James Wimer, of Staunton passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Brookdale of Staunton.
Ms. Butler was born in England on March 4, 1926, a daughter of the late Harry and Gladys Butler.
Joyce was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers. She was a war bride, who married her husband in 1946 and worked at DuPont and GE / Genicom. After retirement, she was an administrative assistant for the American Red Cross. She was a life time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and held many state and national seats, including President and was also a member of American Legion Post 13. Joyce was also the area chairperson of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association.
Surviving, are her two sons, Roger Wimer (Terry) and Carl Wimer; five grandchildren, Tim Wimer (Kate), Lindsey Hopewell (Matthew), Kelly Shea (John), Elizabeth Elcox, and Jennifer Wimer; eight great-grandchildren, Trinity, Kimber, Olivia, Addison, Brogan, Azure, Alexa, and Mya.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by Pastor Lee Thomas.
Friends may visit anytime at the home of Roger and Terry, 53 Whippoorwill Way, Waynesboro.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Legacy Hospice for their care and support.
