STAUNTON:
Joseph Ray Darcus, 56, of 112 Sunnyside Street passed away, Sunday, September 18, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Darcus was born April 7, 1955 in Staunton, a son of the late Wilbert Allen, Sr. and Pauline Stuart (Carr) Darcus.
Joseph formerly attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church as well as Robert E. Lee High School. He was a self-employed mechanic and tractor trailer driver. He enjoyed working on cars and loved to paint drawings.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Jo Darcus.
Survivors include four brothers, Wilbert A. Darcus Jr. of Cary, NC, John Darcus and wife, Cari of Portland, OR, Frank E. Darcus, Sr. and Archie L. Darcus both of Staunton,; three sisters, Patricia D. Giles and husband, Pierce, Nelston Queen Johnson and husband, Gerald and Tamara Scott and husband, Junior all of Staunton; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Waynesboro conducted by Rev. Dr. Warne B. Dawkins.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Louis Jones, Sr., Gene Rodney Crawford, Kevin Madden, Jerry Venable, Eugene Scott, Jr. and James Russell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Scott and Mervin Jones.
Friends may call at the home of his sister, Patricia Giles at 611 Ritchie Blvd. and other times at the funeral home.
