Obituary

John Minor Wilberger, 92, widower of Carrie Hannah (Hostetter) Wilberger of 314 Monument Avenue, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mr. Wilberger was born on October 22, 1925 in Mt. Sidney, a son of the late Minor Bell and Zula Mae (Landes) Wilberger.

John was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War

II in the Invasion of France, D-Day, and proudly earned two Bronze Stars. He was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Smiths Transfer, where he was employed as a trailer mechanic. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and going fishing. He especially loved his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife of fifty-six years, Mr. Wilberger was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Wilberger and Frank Wilberger; and four sisters, Charlotte Link, Hazel Dean, Jean Myers, and Billy Ann Spitler.

Mr. Wilberger was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving is a son, John W. Wilberger; a daughter, Sherri L. Simmons and her husband Dwayne; two grandchildren, Whitney Simmons and Zachary Simmons; a brother-in-law, James Hostetter; special friend, Camille Simmons, all of Staunton; a number of nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.

A private burial will be in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mt. Sidney.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to the doctors and staff of the UVA Staunton Dialysis Center.
