John Franklin "J.J." Smiley, Jr., 49, of North Church Street, Craigsville, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mr. Smiley was born in Staunton on May 18, 1974, a son of John Franklin Smiley, Sr. and the late Constance Diane "Connie" (May) Smiley.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James "Jimmy" Cleveland and Ruth Ellen (Campbell) May and paternal grandparents, Herman and Shirley (Ford) Smiley.

Surviving, in addition to his father of Craigsville, is a daughter, Raven Wood and her fiancé, Jacob Coley of Lynchburg; his brother, Philip Craig Smiley and his wife, Kimberly of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Ashton and Jaxson Coley; and dearest friend, Betty Price of Staunton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 in the Craigsville Cemetery by Pastor Dwight Roetto.

The family would like to recognize the ICU staff at Augusta Health and the staff of UVA Dialysis of Staunton for all their compassion and care.
