John Daniel "Pops" Spitler, Jr. 58, of Hewitt Road, Swoope passed away Thursday, October 15, 2020 in Middlebrook.

John was born in Vernon, Texas on September 8, 1962, a son of the late John Daniel Spitler, Sr. and DeLoris Yvonne (Espe) Whitlock.

Mr. Spitler served as a mechanic in the United States Navy and was employed by Cargill. He was a member of the Brandywine, West Virginia South Fork Ruritan Club and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. John enjoyed riding motorcycles, spending time with his grandchildren, and his dog and cat, "Roo" and "Minnie".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ashley DeRay Spitler and a brother, Edward Dale "Eddie" Spitler.

He is survived by a daughter, Danielle Jean Mefferd of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandchildren, Emma Marie Keel and Ashley Spitler; a brother, Walter Spitler and his wife, Teresa of Staunton and a sister, Julia A. Slater of Cleveland, OH; step-mother, Linda Spitler of Waynesboro; step-father, John A. Whitlock of Staunton; a number of nieces and nephews, including Heather Willis and her husband Larry and Matthew Spitler; and special friends, Mark Protil, Buster Colvin, and Jimmy Kellison.

All services will be private.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
