John Edward Nelson Young, 75, of Rutherford Street in Staunton, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 in Lexington, Virginia.

Mr. Young was born in Staunton, Virginia on March 12, 1949, a son of the late Rosa Katherine Young.

John was a veteran of the United States Army, retired from DuPont as an electrician, and was a member of Aenon Union Baptist Church in Craigsville. He was a faithful fan of the Washington Redskins, enjoyed going out to eat, working on old cars, and drag racing.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Young was preceded in death by a son, E. Nakia "Nique" Gray; and a granddaughter, Jasmine Gray.

Surviving, is a sister, Vivian Moore and her husband, Issac of Staunton; a brother, Henry McKinley Young and his wife, Evelyn of Seattle, Washington; two grandchildren, Nakaila and Legacy Gray; his fiancée, Sally Cooper of Staunton and her children, Tamala Jones and Deanna Nesburg; a niece, Lisa Young; and nephews, Kevin and Brooks Young.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dr. Michael A. Turner.

The family will receive friends anytime at the residence of his sister, 404 Marshall Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
