Obituary

John Cabell Kingery of Charlottesville passed away recently after nearly three years sparring with pancreatic cancer.

A northern Virginia native, John attended the University of Virginia, the University of Edinburgh, and Harvard Law School.  A well-known international trade attorney, John worked in all aspects of trade including government (ITC, USTR), industry (United Technologies and Samsung), inter-governmental (World Trade Organization), and private practice.

John loved his family and his friends, his dogs, Maine and Scotland, hiking and kayaking, reading history and writing.

He leaves behind his wife, Elyse of Charlottesville, his son, Jacob of Manassas, his sister, Rebecca of Arlington, and many lifelong friends and colleagues around the world.

He joins his parents Helen and John, and sister, Judy.

The last words he spoke and the last words he heard were the same:  "I love you."  And really, isn't that all any of us truly wants in the end?

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org/donate.

A celebration of John's life will be held in the fall.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
