JOHN R. KATHERMAN

John Raymond Katherman, 69 husband of Sandra (Butler) Katherman, of 38 Lake View Drive, Raphine died Friday, (November 28, 2008) at his residence.
Mr. Katherman was born on October 26, 1939 in Milmont, Pennsylvania a son of the late Charles and Margaret (Case) Katherman.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin and James Katherman.
Mr. Katherman was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Staunton Masonic Lodge # 13.
He was retired with 30 years of service from the U.S. Army and National Guard. He was also retired from Nibco of Stuarts Draft and the Augusta County School System. Prior to moving from Pennsylvania, Mr. Katherman was employed with the America Car Foundry, (A.C.F.)
In addition to his wife, Mr. Katherman is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; John R. Katherman, II and his wife Kay of Elkton, Va., a daughter Bethanee E. McCray of Middlebrook; a step-son, William Penny, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Waynesboro; two step-daughters, Shannon and Kelly Penny, both of Stuarts Draft; five brothers, William, Walter, Merle and Don Katherman all of Mifflinburg, Pa. and Robert Katherman of Hughesville, Pa.; and two sisters Gretna Kerlin and Mary Katherman, both of Lewisburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew McCray, Kayley Katherman, Amber Davis, Brian Shifflett, Daniel and his wife Brittney Penny, Jacob Penny, Kacey Gibson and Josh Penny; two great-grandchildren; Addison Caricofe and Dylan Shifflett; and a special baby, Maggie.
A memorial service will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, (December 3, 2008) in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jo Ann Bunn.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service or at the residence at other times.
