He was born on October 16, 1944 the son of the late John L., Sr. and Edith (Lawhorn) Painter.
Mr. Painter was a veteran of the United States Army, and was retired from Augusta County Circuit Court with 30 years of service in the maintenance department. He always referred to his co-workers at the Circuit Court as his family and he dearly loved them all.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by two brothers, Kinney Lawhorn and Lovell Painter, as well as a sister, Darlene VanAllen.
Johnny Boy is survived by a son, Jay Painter of Raphine; two daughters, Dana Daniel and her husband Monty of Greenville and Sherri Hartless and her husband Guy of Raphine.
He was our dad, our protector, our coach, our biggest fan, our teacher and our hero. Of all of lifes lessons that he handed down, we are most grateful he taught us to love the Lord and to accept him as our Lord and Savior. It is from this lesson we take great comfort knowing his mind and body are restored. He is now part of the choir of angels where he doesnt need a hymnbook because he can remember all the words to his favorite hymns.
Mr. Painter also leaves behind six grandchildren, who with just a mention of their names would make his baby blue eyes shine even brighter. Left to carry his legacy and to cherish his memories are Will and Faun Painter, Brooke and Andrew Phillips, Kayla Jones, and Daytona Hartless; the smallest, yet the most sassy member of the family, great-granddaughter, Kennedy Roo Broughman. Also surviving is a brother, Jimmy Painter of Waynesboro and a sister Linda Downs of Vancleave, Mississippi.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law Sherri and Guy Hartless, 516 Lofton Road, Raphine.
In keeping with Mr. Painters wishes, his body will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
