John Clarence Hensley, 83, widower of Madeline (Meeks) Hensley formerly of Mountain Vista Drive passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes.
Mr. Hensley was born on September 8, 1932 in Augusta County, a son of the late John Gordon and Carrie (Glenn) Hensley.
John was an active member of the West Waynesboro Church of Christ, a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict and he retired in 1985 from G.E./Genicom after thirty-one years of service. Mr. Hensley was a member of the Staunton VFW Post 2216 and he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and working in the yard.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Hensley was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles E. Hensley and Leonard P. Hensley; and a sister, Helen Hensley.
Surviving are three sons, Lewis W. Hensley of Staunton, Hugh P. Hensley and his wife Lynda of Crewe, VA and Dewey W. Hensley and his wife Laurie of Stuarts Draft; two brothers, Raymond Hensley of Fishersville and Frank Hensley of Winter Haven, FL; a sister, Marie Fitzgerald of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Joshua Hensley, Sarah Canafax, Jamie Hensley, Jason Hensley and Ian Hensley; ten great-grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver, Kay Liming; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in the West Waynesboro Church of Christ by Pastor Chad Grondin and Pastor Phil Forehand.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Jamie Hensley, Jason Hensley, Joshua Hensley and JR Hensley.
