John Donald Grove, 86, widower of Crystal Mae (Diehl) Grove, of Fishersville, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at his home.
He was born on August 17, 1938 in Waynesboro, Virginia; a son of the late George Grayson and Mary (Vint) Grove.
John was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was a loving husband and father. A graduate of Wilson Memorial High School, he operated a successful dairy farm and was a good steward of the land. He will always be remembered for his wit and humor.
John was an avid reader and sports fan, basketball and football being his favorites. He passed on his love of fishing to his grandsons and enjoyed taking them to local ponds. In his later years, he actively helped in the garden and sought to grow the best tomatoes.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and twin brother, James Grove; and a sister, Lucy Lee Powell.
Surviving are his children, Beth (Grove) Foster and her husband, Kevin of Waverly, IA, Dr. Mark Grove of Dayton, VA, and Sara (Grove) Jordan and her husband, Calvin of Fishersville; two grandsons, Grayson and Luke Jordan; sister, Nell Mcleod of Monroe, NC; and sister-in-law Dorothy Grove of Crozet, VA. He is also survived by his numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at St. James Lutheran Church in Fishersville, officiated by Pastors Gordon Putnam and Matthew Diehl. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Grayson Jordan, Luke Jordan, Vincent Powell, Alan Grove, Rod Diehl, Michael Diehl, Russell Diehl, Chris Diehl, Winston Whitecotton, and Buddy Wilkins.
Honorary pallbearers are Ivan Diehl, David Diehl, Sam Diehl, John Wright, and the men of St. James Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 320 St. James Road, Fishersville, VA 22939.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
