John Lewis Gilmer, 80, of Swoope, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at the home of his brother and sister-in-law in Staunton.
Mr. Gilmer was born on May 9, 1938 in Augusta County, a son of the late Ernest E. and Lillie (Moore) Gilmer.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Army, he retired from Westinghouse / McQuay after 37 years of service as an assembler, and he had a life-long love for farming and hunting.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mabel Miller, Louise Harlow, Frances Gordon, and Helen Gilmer; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Gilmer.
Surviving are three brothers, Junior E. Gilmer and George E. Gilmer and his wife Shirley, both of Staunton, and Warren H. Gilmer and his wife Barbara of Waynesboro; a sister, Betty G. Piner of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 in the Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. William "Bill" Trice.
The family will receive friends following the service.
