John William 'Bill' Logan, Sr.'s Obituary

John William Bill Logan, Sr., 82, husband of Mildred (Price) Logan of 104 Joan Circle passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Logan was born June 30, 1930 in Staunton, a son of the late Earl Lyle and Carrie Belle (Grimm) Logan.

John enjoyed sports, having played baseball, golf and bowling. He bowled the first 600 (622) set in Augusta County in 1959 at the West Beverley Lanes. He enjoyed his garden, yard and grounds keeping at Linden Heights Baptist Church where he was a member since 1963. John was a decorated veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Air Force from February 1951 to February 1955 receiving the Korean War medal, two Battle stars, and the Good Conduct medal. John retired from the United States Postal Service on June 30, 1986 with 30 years of service as a letter carrier, a job which he enjoyed.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Logan was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence P. Logan and Oswald G. Logan and three sisters, Marie L. Buchanan, Juanita Hill and Bonnie D. Patterson.

John married Mildred (Price) Logan on June 23, 1956, the first wedding held in Linden Heights Baptist Church. To their union was born a son, John William Logan, Jr. of Waynesboro; two daughters, Angela Renee (Logan) McWilliams and her husband Mark of Columbia, VA and Teresa (Logan) Bobinsky and her husband Michael of Richmond; also surviving is a brother, Earl Matthew Logan of Staunton; six sisters, Ferraba L. Whitesell of Waynesboro, Peggy Arehart of Sandston, Laura Spitzer of Williamsburg, Betty Sue Layton of Martinsville, Alice Cooper of Landenburg, PA and Dorothy Richie of Raphine; five grandchildren Jordan Logan, Gracie and Maggie McWilliams and Alex and Andrew Bobinsky and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A Memorial service will be conducted 12:00 noon on Monday, January 7, 2013 in Linden Heights Baptist Church by Pastor Luke Smith and Pastor John Sullivan.

Burial will be private at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends following the service or at the residence at other times.

It is suggested those desiring may make memorial contributions to Linden Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 371 Linden Drive, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
