Betty JoAnn (Buchanan) Sweet, 80, wife of William Walter Bud Sweet of 919 Augusta Farms Road, Waynesboro passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in Augusta Health, Fishersville.

Mrs. Sweet was born on June 13, 1934, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Ernest Fontaine and Grace (Emore) Buchanan.

JoAnn was a member of Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren and loved taking care of her home, family, and grandchildren. She retired from Hershey Chocolate in 2000 after 15 years of service.

In addition to her loving husband of 62 years, Mrs. Sweet is survived by two sons, Dennis L. Sweet and wife Brenda and Gary W. Sweet and wife Lori all of Stuarts Draft; one brother, Kenny C. Buchanan of Lofton, VA; one sister, Lola B. Cox and husband Don of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Amanda Sweet, Seth Sweet, and Skyler Sweet; one great-grandchild, Gage Sweet; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Active pallbearers will be Seth Sweet, Kevin Sweet, David Cox, Roger Welcher, Robert Kelly, and G.P. Fisher.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.

A Celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Randy Simmons.

Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
