Jerry William JW McCray, Jr., 48, of 591 Laurel Hill Road, husband of Dana (Cleveland) McCray, whom he married June 8, 1984, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jerry was born on September 26, 1963 in Augusta County, a son of the late Jerry William McCray, Sr. and Jeanette (Rankin) McCray.
Mr. McCray was a 1981 graduate of Fort Defiance High School, he was employed by VDOT of the Staunton District and previously employed by S.L. Hess and Sons and Kentmere Farms.
In addition to his parents, J.W. was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mark Howdyshell.
Surviving in addition to his wife of twenty-seven years is a son and daughter-in-law, Justin Lee and Brecken (Gutshall) McCray; a special grandson, Brendan Gutshall; a sister, Beth (McCray) Howdyshell; four nephews, Timmy Howdyshell, Christopher and JP Cleveland and Tyler Swisher; three nieces, Emily Howdyshell, Elizabeth Cleveland and Kristie Guyer; a great niece, Karleigh Howdyshell; father-in-law, Jerry O. Cleveland; mother-in-law, Ruth P. Reeves and her husband David L. Reeves, Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Cleveland and his wife Lisa and Todd Cleveland and his wife Angie; sister-in-law, Sheryl C. Swisher and her husband David; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, Mark Craun, Kevin Craun and their families and special pets, Sadie and Lady also survive.
In keeping with Jerrys wishes he will be cremated with no formal service or visitation. However, family and friends may visit any time at the home.
A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Legacy Hospice, 1842 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, VA 22939.
