Jerry W. Collins
STAUNTON:
Jerry Wayne Collins, 61, of 237 Hermitage Road passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 in the Shenandoah House in Fishersville.
Mr. Collins was born June 21, 1947 in Staunton, a son of the late
Harry F. and Mary B. (Gwen) Collins.
Jerry was employed with Willard Coyner Drywall as a contractor as a drywall hanger. He was an active member of the Verona Moose Lodge 2173 and a former member of the Staunton Moose. He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. Jerry was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Jane Doyle and her husband Thomas E. Tom of Raphine, Heather Renee Collins and her friend Zane Pullen of Swoope, Holly Rae Collins and her friend Todd Cribbs of Staunton; two brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond L. Collins and his wife Judy of Staunton, Gary F. Skip Collins and his wife Linda of Waynesboro; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Thelma Jean Campbell and her husband Johnny of Goshen, Barbara Ann McDorman of Staunton. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Morgan Bowman, Emma Doyle, Darrion Collins and Kaylee Pullen.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 in the Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by the Rev. H. Max Bolin after which the family will receive friends at the Verona Moose Lodge from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton.
Active pallbearers will be Kenny Gulick, Charlie Posie, Kenny Hawkins, Bob Gaunts, Larry Michaels and Mike Cook.
It is suggested that those desiring to make memorial contributions to the AMC Hospice of the Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville, VA 24401.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. James Boyer for the care given to their father.
