Jean O. Powell
STAUNTON:
Jean (Orebaugh) Powell, 87, widow of Leonard S. Powell of 3663 Spring Hill Road, Staunton passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at her residence.
Mrs. Powell was born January 11, 1926 in Stevens City, Virginia a daughter of the late Bernard Roller and Cammie (Houff) Orebaugh.
Mrs. Powell was a lifetime member of Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member in her church choir. Jean worked in Customer Care at Shenandoah Valley Electric where she retired in January, 1988 after 32 years of service. Mrs. Powell lived in Weyers Cave for 45 years, from 1950-1995 until moving to Staunton in 1995. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by three sisters; Mary Bell (Orebaugh) Lihos, Lola (Orebaugh) Scott and Bernice (Orebaugh) Swartz.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include a son; L. Thomas Tom Powell of Staunton; four grandchildren; Shae D. Powell, Stephanie (Powell) Dean, Darin Thomas Powell and Kelsie Janelle Powell; two great grandchildren; Sterling Dean and Tyler Dean; and a special close friend, Brenda Kay Powell.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery by Pastor Kenneth Price.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
