Janet Lee (Dinkle) Kirkland's Obituary

Janet Lee (Dinkle) Kirkland, 83, wife of Richard G. Kirkland of 668 Gloria Place, Staunton, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Kirkland was born in Augusta County, Virginia on January 14, 1938, a daughter of the late Frank Eugene and Lillian Lenore (Martin) Dinkle.

Janet was a member of Craigsville Southern Baptist Church and a past member of the Jollivue Barterbrook Ruritan Club for many years. Janet loved camping and traveling.

Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin E. Dinkle; an aunt, Margaret D. Parker; a step-daughter, Jeanne Whitaker; and a great nephew, Derek G. Losh.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Curtis Jackson of Craigsville; a daughter, Melisa (Jackson) Byrd and her husband Rob of Swoope; step-children, Peggy Shanklin of Charlottesville, Chuck Kirkland and his wife Cathy of Peoria, Arizona; step-grandchildren, Emily Shanklin, Jonathan Schoeller and his wife Rhianna, Cassandra Kirkland and Devin Whitaker; a step-great grandchild, Tyanna; siblings, Fred Dinkle of Staunton, Alice Redifer and her husband Bud of Parnassus and Donald Dinkle and his wife Phyllis of Stuarts Draft; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2021 in the Craigsville Southern Baptist Church by Pastor Tom Quick.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Craigsville Community Cemetery.

(Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic all current guidelines and restrictions will be followed.)

Active pallbearers will be Wayne Paxton, Carl Schanagel, Jimmy Guynn, John Tankesley, Ray Wimer, Rob Byrd, Shawn Redifer and Jeff Dinkle.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial donations to the Craigsville Southern Baptist Church, PO Box 57, Craigsville, VA 24430 or the Mosby Foundation, PO Box 1978, Staunton, VA 24402.

Janet's family wishes to express a sincere "Thank You" to the nursing staff at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for the love and care shown to her during her illness.
