STAUNTON:

James Odell Yount, 86, husband of Bettie (McCann) Yount, of 1900 Hillsmere Lane, Staunton and formerly of Davis Road in Waynesboro, passed away Thursday, (February 5, 2009) at his home at Loyalton Assistant Living of Staunton.
Mr. Yount was born on February 23, 1922 in Hickory, North Carolina a son of the late Glenn Odell and Mary Elizabeth (May) Yount.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Yount was preceded in death by his brother, William Davis Yount and a sister Mary Frances Landis.
James was an U.S. Veteran of the Army Air Corp serving his country proudly during WWII and the Korean War.
Mr. Yount was a graduate of Davis and Elkins College and attended Union Theological Seminary. He was pastor of Hat Creek and Diamond Hill Presbyterian Churches in Campbell County, taught school in the Lynchburg City Schools and was retired from Mecklenburg County as a Parole Officer.
Surviving in addition to his wife to whom he married on December 1, 1944, survivors include three daughters, Linda Dillehunt of Charlottesville, Sue Burton of Danville and Becky Lightner of Staunton; two sisters, Rena Dyer of Rochester, Minnesota and Betty May Gregory of Jackson Springs, North Carolina; four grandchildren, James and Joshua Lightner and Lori and David Dillehunt; three step-grandchildren, Mike and Jeff Burton and Teresa Hedrick; and three step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
