James Thomas Jim Wilkins, 71, husband of Kandy (Cross) Wilkins, of 163 Lake Drive, passed away Wednesday, (December 2, 2009) in the McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.
Mr. Wilkins was born February 3, 1938 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, a son of the late Harvey Newman and Claudia Mae (James) Wilkins.
Jim attended Greenville Baptist Church. He had many hobbies, loved flowers, auto-racing and spending time with his pet dogs, Brownie and Mr. Chin.
In addition to his wife to whom he married May 30, 1973, Mr. Wilkins is survived by five daughters, Julie McDearmon and her husband Chad of Greenville, Cheryl Snyder and her husband Bobby of Carthridge, N.C., Freda Mabe of Eden, NC and Teresa Emerson and her husband Charlie of Ruffin, NC, and Donna Coffey of Lynchburg; a son, Albert Wilkins of Eden, NC; a brother, Jeffrey Sullivan and his wife Dale of Lantana, Fla; a sister, Gwen Eddleman of Farmville; very close and devoted sisters-in-law, Ellie Campbell and her husband, Curney of Verona and Gail Halterman and her husband Don of Staunton; six brothers-in-law, Hugh Cross of Shipman, Larry Cross and his wife Betty of Staunton, Sidney Cross and his friend Carolyn Shifflett of Grottoes, Joseph Cross and his wife Debbie of Deerfield, Allon Cross of Buffalo Gap and Julius Cross and his wife Cathy of Stuarts Draft; eight grandchildren, Breana McDearmon, Libby Snyder, Albert Lawrence, Christy Harvell, Pam Manley, Timothy Fuller, Kayla Fuller and Kimber Hensley; two great-grandchildren, Sklyer Manley and Lexie Woods. In addition to his family, Jim is survived by his devoted and best friend, Clifford James and his wife Darlene and other close friends, Richard Christy, Forest Bosserman and their special neighbors, Marie and Charles Cartwright.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bill Johnson.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
Active pallbearers will be Julius Cross, Allon Cross, Joe Cross, Sidney Cross, Larry Cross, Hugh Cross, Joey Cross, Aaron Cross and John Plummer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lyle Sweet, Sr., Lyle Sweet, Jr., Robert Wilson, Forest Bosserman, Richard Christy, Joe Wallace and Chad McDearmon.
