James F. Mowbray, Jr.

STAUNTON:

James Franklin Jim Mowbray, Jr., 82, husband of Jo Ann (Turner) Mowbray of Staunton passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mr. Mowbray was born January 30, 1930 in Rockingham County, a son of the late James Franklin Mowbray Sr. and Armenta G. (Tutwiler) Mowbray.
Mr. Mowbray retired from VDOT in 1990 and later returned part-time until 2010 with over fifty years of service as a construction inspector. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and he devoted time to prison ministry at the Staunton Correctional Center for twenty-five years. He was a member of the Full Gospel Mens Fellowship International, the Business Mens Fellowship and the Staunton Coin and Relic Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mowbray was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Mowbray and an infant sister.
In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, survivors include a son, Dale F. Mowbray of Staunton; three daughters, Patricia M. Pat Campbell and her husband Danny of Churchville, Karen M. Hoover and her husband David of Swoope and Julie Wilson Miller and her husband Jerry of Defiance, Ohio; grandchildren, Rev. Michael Campbell of Lafayette, AL, Jan Campbell of Staunton, Jennifer Hoover of Swoope, Joshua Wilson of Charlottesville, Jacob Wilson of Staunton, Sarah Dimock of Ottowa, OH and Bekah, Kellsee, Amanda, Abbie and Katie Miller of Defiance, OH; great-grandchildren, Bayleigh Hoover of Swoope and Rylee Wilson of Staunton; a brother, Guy N. Mowbray and his wife Betty of Salem; two sisters, Darlene Shifflette and her husband Leonard of Harrisonburg and Fay Cromer of Salem; sister-in-law, Dot Mowbray of Roanoke; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Flora of Glen Burnie, MD and Rev. and Mrs. David Turner of Louisburg, NC; a number of nieces, nephews and close friendships also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012 in Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor Temple D. Myers.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
Active pallbearers will be Dave Burkholder, Bob Tait, Cliff Fretwell, John Sandridge, Fred Protil and Winfred Miller.
Honorary pallbearers are Ernie Anthony, R.M. Stone, Jr., Bob Atkins, Lee Vest, Roger Hertzler, Eddie Lowe, Milton Heatwole and Marlin Burkholder.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
