James David Lafon, 90, husband of Shirley (Furr) Lafon of Jackmia Way, Staunton, passed away, Tuesday August 18, 2026 in the Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fishersville.

Mr. Lafon was born on April 24, 1936, in Pembroke, Virginia the son of the late Nettie Frances (Lafon) Martin.

James was retired from Dupont after 28 years of service. He was an active member of the Annex Fellowship Church where he taught Sunday school for over 50 years and served as a Lay Leader of the church. Mr. Lafon was an avid University of Virginia Cavaliers fan, supporting all sporting events. He enjoyed working outdoors, fishing and cheering on his Washington Redskins football team.

Mr. Lafon was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, of 68 years are two sons, Terry Lafon and his wife Kara of Staunton, and Kirk Lafon and his wife Kristan of Oxford, MS; three grandsons, Seth Lafon and his significant other Sam, Beau Lafon and his wife Angela and Jax Lafon; and two great-grandchildren, Sam and Benny Lafon.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Annex Fellowship Church by the Rev. Richard Grendahl and Rev. Russell Heinrich.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton are handling his arrangements.
