James Philip Kirtz, 76, husband of Billie Joan (Hall) Kirtz
of 61 Brookmill Road passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mr. Kirtz was born June 7, 1935 in Staunton, a son of the late Russell Ransom and Mary Belle (Mowry) Kirtz.
James was a member of the Wayne Hills Baptist Church in Waynesboro. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1975, the United States Capitol Police Force and Myrtle Beach Airport Security. Mr. Kirtz was a member of the Conway, S.C. VFW Post 7525, a life-time member of the Conway SC Moose Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Police in Washington, DC. Mr. Kirtz was mostly recently employed by Fisher Auto Parts in Staunton as delivery driver.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirtz was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Wesley Kirtz and four sisters, Agnes (Kirtz) Gunsalus, Grace (Kirtz) Puffenbarger, Louise (Kirtz) Massey and Jeanne (Kirtz) Skorupski.
In addition to his wife of twenty-seven years, survivors include two daughters, Mary Anne Kirtz of Leonardtown, MD and Anna Maria Smith and her husband, Warren of Springfield; a step-son, David Allen McLain of Loris, SC; a step-daughter, Ellen Suzanne McLain of Long, SC; two grandchildren, Danny Kirtz and Philip Hendrickson; a brother, John Russell Kirtz and his wife, Beverly of Conway, SC; four sisters, Hallie (Kirtz) Dieter and her husband, Melvin of Lyndhurst, Katherine (Kirtz) Gilbert of Staunton, Rebecca (Kirtz) Demasters of Fishersville and Glenna (Kirtz) Carroll and her husband, Charles of Waynesboro; sisters-in-law, Betty Thompson of Stuarts Draft and Dottie Kirtz of Staunton; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted at the 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 in the Wayne Hills Baptist Church by Dr. Danny Campbell.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be private in the National Cemetery.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to the
Wayne Hills Baptist Church, 877 Ladd Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
