James Franklin Hartsook, 74, widower of Jeannette Ann (Arbogast) Hartsook, of Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mr. Hartsook was born in Staunton on September 5, 1951 the son of the late John Calvin and Helen Mae (Stoner) Hartsook.

James had a wonderful sense of humor and a big heart that touched everyone who knew him. He loved his family deeply and treasured the time he spent with them. Whether he was watching classic westerns or listening to his favorite oldies, he found joy in life's simple pleasures. James was also a devoted animal lover who cared deeply for his furry friends, especially his beloved Benji. His kindness, laughter, and generous spirit will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents and wife of 38 years, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Lisa Smith; a brother, George Hartsook; and a sister, Bonnie Wright.

Surviving are his children, Jamie Hartsook and his wife, Krystal, Shauna Harvey, and Trent Hartsook and his wife, Destiny; eight grandchildren, Ashley Sedr and her husband, Billy, Makayla Piller and her husband, Zach, Malaina Harvey and her fiancé, Kaleb, Logan Hartsook, Madison Harvey, Hunter Harvey, Grant Hartsook, and Carter Hartsook; seven great-grandchildren, Adelyn Sedr, Gracen Belle Sedr, Hollis Sedr, Lakyn Piller, Kylie Piller, Iyla Piller, and Claire Gilley; three brothers, two sisters, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg by Pastor Shawna Hiner.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
