James W. Harner, Sr.
STAUNTON:
James Warren Jack Harner, Sr., 87, widower of Anna Mae (Whitmore) Harner of 1706 Paige Street, Staunton passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
Mr. Harner was born January 24, 1924 in Middlebrook, a son of the late Robert W. and Sally (Maupin) Harner.
Mr. Harner retired in 1977 after thirty-two years of service with DuPont as a power house operator and later was a volunteer for Kings Daughters Hospital and Augusta Medical as a shuttle bus driver. Mr. Harner was a veteran of the United States Army. Jack loved his family and was a Jack-of-all trades.
Mr. Harner was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Harner was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Harner and two sisters, Louise Farr and Sarah Francis Bishop.
Survivors include a son, James W. Jim Harner, Jr. and his wife Donna K. of Crimora; two daughters, Teresa H. Tea Howell of Stuarts Draft and Diane H. Mottesheard and her husband Randy of Chesterfield; five grandchildren, Tricia (Harner) Black and her husband Bart, Jason Mottesheard and his wife Leslie, Benjamin Howell, III and his wife Angie, Matthew Howell and his wife Kilee and Phillip Howell and his wife Ashlie; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Lisa Mottesheard and Keith Mottesheard and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012 in Augusta Memorial Park by Pastor Temple D. Myers.
The family will receive friends at each of his childrens homes.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested those desiring to make memorial contributions to Memorial Baptist Church Outreach Program for needy families, 225 Taylor Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
