James 'Jim' Erasmus Cacciapaglia's Obituary

James Erasmus Cacciapaglia, 85, husband of Janie (Zimmerman) Cacciapaglia of 2510 Knollwood Drive, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 in the Charlottesville Hospice House.

Mr. Cacciapaglia was born on March 3, 1930 in Staunton, a son of the late Oronzo and Camilla (Terlizzi) Cacciapaglia.

James was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church where he served as head usher, he served twelve years in the National Guard, and Mr. Cacciapaglia was a well-known businessman in downtown Staunton for over 45 years, operating Jims Delicatessen. He was a member of the Staunton Moose Lodge 1635, the Staunton Elks Lodge 351 where he served as Exalted Ruler, and the Elliotts Knob Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 680 where he served as president and governor. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor, he enjoyed conversing, and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cacciapaglia was preceded in death by a granddaughter Camilla Jane Mullins and a brother John Cacciapaglia.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years is a son, Donato O. Cacciapaglia of Floyd, VA; a daughter, Camilla C. Mullins and her husband Gordon of Radcliff, KY.; a step-son, Jim Smith of Floyd, VA; a brother, Donato A. Cacciapaglia of Waynesboro; three sisters, Rose Marie Casson and Josephine Ann King both of Staunton, and Louise Camilla Bowers and her husband of Raymond V., III of Fairfield, VA; a grandson, James Russell Mullins of Newport News, VA and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church by Monsignor Andrew Cassin.

The family will receive friends following the service in Assisi Hall.

Those desiring may pay their respects at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory or the residence at any time.

Active pallbearers will be James R. Mullins, Joe Berlange, David Zimmerman, Raymond Bowers, III, Gary Spiers and Patrick Carne.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Staunton Moose Lodge 1635, the Staunton Elks Lodge 351, and the Elliotts Knob Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 680.

A private family burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.

It is suggested those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church, 118 North New Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401, the Valley Mission, 1513 West Beverley Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401 or the Hospice of the Piedmont, 501 Park Street, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902.
