Obituary

James Halbert “Jim” Duff, Sr., 86, husband of Betty Lou (Wines) Duff, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Duff was born in Buena Vista, Virginia on May 30, 1939, a son of the late Carl Halbert Duff and Mary Georgia (Truslow) Duff.

Jim was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Waynesboro and a life member of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew. He retired from Dupont in 1997 after 31 years of service, where he served as a supervisor, and later worked in transportation at Augusta Health. Jim enjoyed coaching little league football and baseball, fishing, camping and attending ball games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Duff; and three sisters, Ruth MacDonald, Christine Ramsey, and Ila Wade.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 66 years is a son, James “Hal” Duff, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Winchester; three daughters, Donna Staton and her husband, Ronald “R.L.” of Grottoes, Dina Flick and her husband, Tim of Staunton and Katie Masincup and her husband, Scott also of Staunton; twelve grandchildren, Brittany Kisamore and husband Derec, Daniel Lloyd, Sarah Duff, Heather Moran, Gage Staton and wife Heather, Mary Doumont and husband Patrick, Abby Craig and husband Dylan, Hannah Staton, Brittany Shifflett and husband Mike Morris, Garrett Staton and fiancée Olivia, Buford Ashton Masincup and Brennan Masincup; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the First Aid Crew Building, 201 West Main Street, Waynesboro.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 301 Sheppard Court, Waynesboro.

The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to the staff at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Jim’s memory to Augusta Health Foundation, c/o Hospice of the Shenandoah, P. O. Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939 or the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 West Broad Street, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980.
