James Melvin Buss, 81, widower of Candy Careen (Hein) Buss, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the Shenandoah Hospice House.

James was born in Mason City, Iowa on February 24, 1943, a son of the late Melvin Harold Buss and Leona (Lindloff) Buss.

James retired after 22 years of service in the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, wood-working, watching sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Buss was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald "Jerry" Buss and David Buss; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Nuehring.

Surviving, are four children, Kimberly Buss and Gregory Buss of Staunton, Kristine Brooks and her husband, Allen of Mt. Sidney, and Karol Treadway and her husband, Jason of Pulaski; three sisters, Diane Nuehring, Vicki Rooney and her husband, Jim, and Cindy Rolling and her partner, Keith, all of Sheffield, Iowa; five grandchildren, Dylan, William, Kaitlyn, and Megan Brooks, and Jaxson Treadway; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
